Kazakhstan's parliament at a joint session of chambers on Thursday supported sending a peacekeeping contingent of the republic to participate in the UN missions. President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev submitted the proposal to parliament. It is supposed that Kazakhstan's servicemen can be sent to Mali, Democratic Republic of Congo and Central African Republic.
Ruslan Zhaksylykov, the republic's Defense Minister, earlier announced Tokayev's initiative at a joint session of the chambers. "I consider it expedient to expand the participation of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Kazakhstan in UN peacekeeping missions in accordance with Chapter 7 of the UN Charter in the Central African Republic, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Mali. Kazakhstan is ready to allocate both individual servicemen as staff officers and military observers and specialized units most in demand in UN missions: infantry, medical, reconnaissance, engineering and military police units," Zhaksylykov read out the head of state's proposal.
