Kazakhstan’s president declares mourning after deadly plane crash

December 28 was declared a day of national mourning in Kazakhstan in connection with the crash of the plane near Almaty. The corresponding decree was signed by the President of the Republic Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.


A Bek Air plane en route from Almaty to Nur-Sultan with 95 passengers and 5 crewmembers onboard crashed shortly after takeoff outside the Almaty airport early Friday.


According to preliminary data, the plane lost altitude and crashed into a concrete structure. 


In the updated lists at the moment there are 12 people dead, almost 70 are injured, 12 of them are in extremely serious condition.
There were no Russians onboard the crashed plane.
