Kazakhstan's ruling party, Nur Otan (Light of the Fatherland), leads in the January 10 elections to the Majilis (lower house of parliament), Sabila Mustafina, the secretary of Kazakhstan's Central Election Commission, said at a briefing on Monday, presenting preliminary results of the vote.

"Voter votes in the Majilis elections were distributed as follows: for the Nur Otan party - 71.09%",  Mustafina said.

According to her, Ak Zhol ("Bright Path") got 10.95% of the vote and the People's Party of Kazakhstan 9.10%. Thus, the three parties passed the 7% barrier and entered the parliament.

Two other parties contesting the election received less than 7 percent of the vote. The Auyl People's Patriotic Democratic Party ("Village") received 5.29% of the vote, and the Adal (" Honesty") party received 3.57% of the vote. "The CEC will establish the final results of the election of deputies to the Majilis of Kazakhstan, elected by party lists, at its meeting after receiving all the original protocols of territorial election commissions,"  the CEC representative.

On Sunday, Kazakhstan held elections of deputies to the Majilis elected according to party lists. The Majilis consists of 107 deputies, 98 of which are directly elected by secret ballot by party lists. The Assembly of the People of Kazakhstan, which implements national policies on inter-ethnic relations, elected the remaining nine parliamentarians Monday, in accordance with the law. The structure of the new Majilis might be completed in less than a week after the Central Election Commission announces the official election results, Kazakhstani political analyst Daniyar Ashimbayev said.
