Khaled Mashal Becomes New Hamas Leader Following Sinwar’s Assassination

18 October

Khaled Mashal, the head of Hamas' foreign office, has assumed leadership of the Palestinian movement after the Israeli army reportedly assassinated Yahya Sinwar, the chairman of Hamas' political bureau. According to sources cited by the Lebanese news portal LBCI, Mashal is now acting as the head of the organization and is responsible for all communications with key parties involved in negotiations, particularly concerning the release of hostages.

The sources also noted that Hamas leadership has informed officials in Turkey, Qatar, and Egypt about Sinwar's assassination during an operation in Tel al-Sultan. They emphasized that negotiations regarding prisoner exchanges and efforts to end the conflict will likely become more challenging.
