Khusnullin notes potential for further trade turnover growth between Tajikistan and Russia

Trade turnover between Russia and Tajikistan in the first quarter of 2023 increased by 13% and has a stable upward trend. Russian Deputy Prime Minister Marat Khusnullin said this on Tuesday at a meeting with Tajik Prime Minister Kohir Rasulzoda in Dushanbe.


"In the economic sphere, Russia is among Tajikistan's leading trade partners, trade turnover has increased by more than 18 percent over the year, since the beginning of this year it has grown by 13 percent in the first quarter and I think it also has a stable upward trend," Khusnullin said.


According to his data, the volume of accumulated Russian investments in the economy of Tajikistan amounted to 130 billion rubles, more than 300 companies with Russian participation are operating in the market of the republic. "We are sincerely interested in further strengthening of trade and economic, scientific and technical, cultural and humanitarian cooperation," the deputy prime minister stressed.


In turn, Rasulzoda noted that trade, industry, energy, transport, agriculture and education are the priority areas of economic cooperation between the two countries. "We are glad that our views are largely the same, we have been working these days, our groups have been working and there are already practical results," he said.


Dushanbe will host a meeting of the intergovernmental commission on trade and economic cooperation between Tajikistan and Russia on Tuesday. The Russian deputy prime minister arrived in Dushanbe on June 19 and met with President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon. Together with Rustam Emomali, Chairman of the upper house of the republic's parliament and Mayor of Dushanbe, the deputy prime minister inspected the construction sites for the new building of the Vladimir Mayakovsky Russian State Drama Theater and discussed the creation of an analogue of the Russian educational center "Sirius" in Tajikistan.
