Khusnullin: Significant Advancements in Russia-Islamic Countries Cooperation Over the Past Year

17 May

Over the past year, there have been significant developments in the cooperation between Russia and the Islamic world, particularly in logistics. This was highlighted by Marat Khusnullin, Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation, at the plenary session of the XV International Economic Forum "Russia - Islamic World: KazanForum-2024," during the discussion on "Financial and Logistics Infrastructure of Russia and the OIC Countries."

Khusnullin noted that Russian President Vladimir Putin places great importance on the outcomes of KazanForum and the ongoing work in this area. "It is no coincidence that in one of his recent addresses, he set the goal of reducing vehicle border crossing times to eight minutes. Since then, several relevant agreements have been signed. Additionally, the construction of the Moscow-Kazan highway has reduced travel time to the southeast by six hours. Our Kazakh colleagues are also actively enhancing their transportation infrastructure and building new roads. There are ongoing projects to connect Russia with Turkmenistan and Iran, and we already have a railroad connection with Iran. Tourist traffic has increased several times during this period. Overall, trade turnover with the countries of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation has increased by 31 percent over the last year. All these achievements are the result of our concerted efforts," Khusnullin stated during his speech.
