On February 9, the Russian President's Special representative for the Syrian settlement, Alexander Lavrentiev, and Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Vershinin, as part of the Russian interdepartmental delegation with representatives of the Russian Defense Ministry, were received by the King Abdullah II of Jordan. In addition, extensive consultations were also held with Jordanian representatives, led by Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi.
The parties discussed in detail the development of the situation in Syria and in the region as a whole, as well as the issues of the Palestinian-Israeli settlement. The participants of the meetings noted the importance of establishing stability and security in the Middle East and North Africa based on respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of States, resolving regional conflicts in accordance with UN decisions and international law.
The parties also confirmed the need to fight terrorists and solve humanitarian problems, with an emphasis on promoting the safe, voluntary and dignified return of refugees.
