King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud of Saudi Arabia has pointed to the importance of relations between Russia and Muslim countries, the address read the opening of the "Russia - Islamic World" forum in the Saudi city of Jeddah states.
"Relations between Russia and Saudi Arabia have been developing, [cooperation between the two countries] has been marked by the conclusion of agreements in various fields," the monarch said, quoted by Al Arabiya TV. He stressed that his country "affirms the importance of relations between Russia and the Islamic world." "We seek to promote harmony between [representatives of] different religions and civilizations and to strengthen human values," the king added, calling on the countries of the world to show "solidarity in the fight against terrorism" and be guided by "the principle of mutual coexistence."
The GSV "Russia-Islamic World" was created in 2006, after the Russian Federation joined the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) as an observer. It includes 33 well-known statesmen and public figures from 27 countries, including former prime ministers and foreign ministers and major theologians from Indonesia, Morocco, Saudi Arabia, Iran, Kuwait and other states.
