Kosachev says Nuland will take the fall if Ukraine turns into a second Afghanistan

17 February 2023

US Under Secretary of State Victoria Nuland, who said that the Ukrainian army has a legal right to strike Crimea, will be the first to "get caught" if Ukraine turns into a second Afghanistan or Iraq for America. This opinion was expressed Friday by Konstantin Kosachev, vice speaker of the Federation Council.

"The nervous activity of the "fairy of Euromaidan" is easy to explain exactly: if the whole long-term Ukrainian adventure of Washington turns into a second Afghanistan or Iraq for America, it will not be necessary to look for the worst - she will be the first to get caught," wrote the senator in his Telegram-channel.

He noted that questions about who exactly dragged the US  into this conflict with a nuclear power "are increasingly published in the pages of the American media." "It looks like Nuland's toxic 'cookies' are starting to go back to their source, and the 'baker' himself is getting clearly nervous, trying to raise the stakes as much as possible. Nuland's personal interests are now blatantly at odds with American interests, but it looks like she has nothing more to lose," suggested Kosachev.

The parliamentarian stated that for a long time there has been no hiding the fact that the US military and intelligence is engaged in targeting Ukrainian attacks. "But now one of the leading politicians of the US, who theoretically should be engaged in diplomacy, is already in the role of a spotter. However, we know very well what 'diplomacy' from Nuland means: she said that the US wants to see a 'strategic defeat' of Russia, for which the US will continue to support Ukraine as long as necessary," recalled the deputy chairman of the Council of the Federation.

Nuland, speaking at the Carnegie Endowment in Washington on Thursday, said the US considers military facilities located in Crimea to be legitimate targets for strikes by Ukraine. She said Ukraine is striking at them, and the US is supporting it. "Ukraine will not be safe unless Crimea is at least demilitarized," she argued. According to Nuland, "it's part of ensuring a lasting deterrent [of Russia]."
