Russia is taking all possible measures to assist NTV journalists detained in Turkey and is studying the circumstances and reasons for the detention, the press secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov said.
As NTV's press service earlier reported, employees of the Central Television program Alexey Petrushko and Ivan Malyshkin were detained in Turkey and they stopped getting in touch. A source in the Turkish Foreign Ministry told RIA Novosti that NTV journalists detained in Turkey allegedly had no accreditation and were filming without permission in the area where Baykar Savunma, a manufacturer of combat drones, is located. The Istanbul administration confirmed that two NTV journalists were detained for unauthorized filming and their detention was extended to three days.
"We continue to study the circumstances of this detention and its causes," Peskov answered journalists' question as to whether the detention of NTV employees is considered an unfriendly step by Turkey.
When asked what the Russian side would do if the situation could not be resolved promptly, the presidential spokesman noted that "all possible measures will be taken to assist the detained Russian journalists".
The Kremlin expects that the incident with the detention of NTV employees in Turkey will be resolved through dialogue, and the journalists will soon be released, Dmitry Peskov added.
"Our diplomats are in contact with the Turkish side. We expect that this incident will be resolved through dialogue. We expect, we hope that our journalists will be released soon," Peskov told journalists.
