Kuwait's Crown Prince Sheikh Mishal al-Ahmed al-Sabah swore in the new government formed by Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmed Nawaf al-Ahmed al-Sabah on Monday, KUNA reports.
"You face fundamental issues and numerous tasks, we attach great importance to them. You must work as a team, cooperating and supporting each other so that the law is applied to everyone equally, to achieve the security of the homeland and citizens <...> and to eradicate corruption and nepotism," the crown prince said at the swearing-in ceremony.
On Sunday, his decree approved the composition of the 43rd government of the emirate. It is the third cabinet composition formed by the prime minister in the past eight months. The ministers responsible for key portfolios in the government retained their positions, except for the head of the ministry of finance, who is also the minister of state for economic affairs and investment. The ministry was headed by Manaf Abdulaziz Ishaq al-Hajri.
Ahmed Nawaf al-Ahmed al-Sabah resigned on January 23 due to another crisis with the parliament. The crown prince accepted his resignation, but instructed the prime minister and the government to serve until a new cabinet was formed. On March 5, he reappointed the resigned prime minister to head the cabinet.
The conflict between the elected parliament and the government appointed by the emir or crown prince has been ongoing for years in Kuwait. On September 29, 2022, elections for the National assembly were held for this reason, following which the cabinet resigned. The formation of the previous government was completed on October 16, 2022.
