The State Committee for National Security (GKNB) of Kyrgyzstan has called upon the country's Muslims to follow the traditional form of Islam practiced by the population and steer clear of radical ideologies.
"The GKNB is urging citizens to embrace the traditional form of Islam practiced by the country's population and to steer clear of radical and non-traditional ideologies," states a press release issued by the GKNB's press center.
Simultaneously, the agency emphasized its commitment to the "state policy in the religious sphere" and highlighted its ongoing efforts to prevent the radicalization of society. The GNKB acknowledged that certain individuals in the country, having acquired unconventional religious education "in foreign countries," subsequently engage in propagating the ideologies of "foreign religious movements," which frequently transcend legal boundaries.
"As a consequence, certain religious factions emerge in society, driven by their limited interpretations and disregarding the teachings of respected Islamic scholars, leading to the propagation of intolerance toward fellow believers," the press center highlighted. In response, the GNKB and the Religious Board of Muslims of Kyrgyzstan have encouraged the public to exercise vigilance and enhance their religious knowledge by seeking education from credible sources, esteemed religious figures, and scholars.
Presently, approximately 95% of the country's population adheres to the Islamic faith.
