Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan agree to cease fire on border

During the talks, representatives of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan have agreed to stop armed clashes on the border. This was reported Friday by the Border Service of the Kyrgyz State Committee for National Security (SCNS).


"The heads of the SCNS of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan, Kamchybek Tashiyev and Saimumin Yatimov, agreed to a cease-fire at 4 p.m. (1 p.m. Moscow time)," the report said.


Representatives of the sides made several attempts to agree to a cessation of clashes, but as a result, the armed conflict continued.

 



According to the Kyrgyz side, on Friday morning, Kyrgyz border guard units in the areas of Eki Tash, Chyr Dobo, Kum Mazar, Kulundu, Maksat, Jany Zher and Orto Boz as well as Samarkandek outpost were shelled from Tajikistan. Bishkek reports 11 Kyrgyz soldiers wounded in shootings. 
 
 
The situation on the border between the two countries escalated on September 14. According to the Kyrgyz side, on Wednesday, Tajik border guards entered the border section near Bulak-Bashy area of Batken district of Batken region of Kyrgyzstan and "took combat positions." In response to a demand to leave the territory, the Tajik border guards opened fire, followed by an exchange of fire. A few hours later armed clashes also occurred in the Kak-Sai and Pasky-Aryk areas of the Batken region. By evening, the exchange of fire had ceased. The Kyrgyz side reported two wounded servicemen and three wounded civilians.
