The controversial issues that arise on the border with Tajikistan should be resolved only peacefully. Kamchybek Tashiyev, chairman of the Kyrgyz State National Security Committee (SNSC) and deputy chairman of the cabinet, said this during a working meeting in Kyrgyzstan's region on Friday, the SNSC Border Guard Service reported.

"All problematic issues at the border and border areas should be solved only politically and diplomatically, at the negotiating table. Border issues affect the interests of the two states, and in this regard, officials of various ranks and ordinary citizens should not make rash statements contributing to the aggravation of the situation on the border. Today we all - Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan - need peace and stability, sustainable development of the two states," the agency quotes Tashiyev.

He also set tasks for the Batken regional leadership "to strengthen and reinforce interaction with the Tajik side." "You have to immediately solve any arising issues on the interaction between the border departments, competent and law-enforcement bodies of the parties," Tashiyev said to the participants of the meeting. He also reminded that the heads of security agencies and state bodies of Batken region "will bear personal responsibility for non-execution of decisions taken."

According to the border service, the meeting was attended by the heads of security agencies, government agencies and local authorities of Batken region, which borders with Tajikistan.

On September 14, an armed conflict began on the Kyrgyz-Tajik border. According to official Bishkek, Tajik border guards entered the border section near Bulak-Bashy area of Batken district of Batken region of Kyrgyzstan and "took combat positions". In response to their demand to leave the area, the Tajik border guards opened fire, followed by an exchange of fire. On September 17, the State Border Guard Service of Kyrgyzstan reported the shelling in the Osh region.

Kyrgyz authorities evacuated about 140,000 citizens from the conflict zone. On the Kyrgyz side, 62 people were killed and about 200 wounded in the confrontation.
