Kyrgyzstan registers Sputnik Lite vaccine

25 June 2021

The Russian single-component vaccine against coronavirus, Sputnik Lite, has been registered by the Kyrgyz Ministry of Health, the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) announced.

"The Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF, a sovereign wealth fund of the Russian Federation) announces the registration of the Russian single-component vaccine against coronavirus Sputnik Lite by the Ministry of Health of the Kyrgyz Republic," the statement said.

The efficacy of the Sputnik Lite single-component vaccine is 79.4% from day 28 after receiving immunization. The effectiveness was calculated based on data from Russians who received only one shot as part of the mass civil vaccination program and did not receive a second shot for any reason between December 5, 2020, and April 15, 2021. The efficacy rate of about 80% exceeds that of many vaccines that require two shots, the RDIF noted.

"The registration of Sputnik Lite in Kyrgyzstan will provide the country with another highly effective and safe vaccine against coronavirus. The single-component vaccine Sputnik Lite will shorten vaccination periods and accelerate the creation of population immunity," Kirill Dmitriev, head of the fund, said.

The two-component vaccine Sputnik V was registered by the Ministry of Health of Kyrgyzstan in February this year. The drug was approved for use under the emergency use authorization (EUA) procedure.

Sputnik V vaccine has been approved for use in 67 countries with a total population of over 3.5 billion people.
