There was a shooting incident between the border guards at the Kyrgyzstan-Tajikistan border on Wednesday. This was reported by the Border Guard Service of the Kyrgyz State Committee for National Security.
"On September 14, there was an incident with the use of weapons on the Kyrgyz-Tajik section of the state border," the report said. The incident occurred in Bulak-Bashy, Batken district, Batken region of Kyrgyzstan.
"While on duty, a border guard unit of the State Committee for National Security (SCNS) of Kyrgyzstan detected a border guard unit of the State Committee for National Security (SCNS) of Tajikistan, which, in violation of earlier agreements between the parties, took up combat positions in an unmarked section of the state border. Ignoring the legitimate demands of the Kyrgyz side to leave the territory, the Tajik border guards opened fire," the report says. In response, Kyrgyz border guards "also used weapons."
"A shooting broke out between the border guards, during which the Tajik side used mortars. As of 09:30 (06:30 Moscow time) September 14, the exchange of fire periodically starts and stops," the border service assured.
On the Kyrgyz side, the republic's Health Ministry told TASS, there were no casualties as a result of the incident.
" The head of the Batken regional department of the SCNS of Kyrgyzstan and the head of the Sughd regional department of the SCNS of Tajikistan held telephone talks on preventing an escalation of the conflict. The parties plan to hold a meeting," the statement said. The Kyrgyz side is taking all measures "to stabilize the situation."
Later, the Batken regional administration told TASS that the shooting at the Kyrgyzstan-Tajikistan border between servicemen stopped.
"Negotiations have taken place between the heads of the border structures of the two countries, at present the shooting has stopped, the work on the normalization of the situation continues," its representative said.
In turn, a source from Tajikistan's security agencies told TASS about the shooting between border guards at a section of the Tajik-Kyrgyz border in the Vorukh district of the Sughd region. He also said that the shooting has been stopped.
