10 March 2023

Kyrgyzstan will hold exercises of CSTO peace-keeping forces "Unbreakable Brotherhood – 2023" on its territory in 2023.  President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Zhaparov made the statement during the meeting with Secretary-General of the Collective Security Treaty Organization Imangali Tasmagambetov in Bishkek on Friday, as the press service informs.

"Sadyr Zhaparov noted that Kyrgyzstan attaches great importance to cooperation within the CSTO as a guarantor of security in the region. In order to coordinate military, informational and humanitarian measures, Kyrgyzstan is planning to hold "Unbreakable Brotherhood – 2023" exercises on its territory this year with the CSTO peacekeeping forces," the statement reads.

According to Zhaparov, currently there is a threat of "international terrorists who have gained combat and subversive experience in hot spots, with the purpose of recruiting citizens and carrying out terrorist acts" moving across various countries.

"Our countries are no exception to this. In this regard, it is necessary to strengthen the relevant work on timely response and prevention of possible destructive manifestations. For its part, Kyrgyzstan is taking appropriate measures aimed at ensuring the security and stability of the country," the press service quotes the president as saying.

This year, exercises of the CSTO peacekeeping forces were to be held in Armenia. However, Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan said that it would be inexpedient to hold the 2023 "Unbreakable Brotherhood" exercise in the country.
