LAS to form contact group to help resolve diplomatic crisis in Ukraine

The Arab League (LAS) expresses concern over the deteriorating humanitarian situation in Ukraine and plans to form a special contact group at the ministerial level to assist in the diplomatic solution of the crisis situation in the republic.


This was stated in a statement issued by the organization on Monday following its emergency meeting, which was held at the initiative of Egypt.


"It was recommended that an Arab ministerial contact group be established to follow up and act: conduct the necessary consultations and contacts with the parties concerned in order to help find a diplomatic solution to the crisis. <...> Concern is expressed about the deterioration of the humanitarian situation and the importance of continued cooperation and coordination among Arab countries to ensure the safety and security of Arab communities currently residing [in Ukraine]," the text reads.


At the same time, LAS member states called on all parties concerned to resolve the current situation in Ukraine through dialogue and diplomacy "in such a way as to ensure the safety of the peoples living in this one of the most important regions of the world".
