Russia’s Special Presidential Envoy for Syria Alexander Lavrentiev expressed the idea of transferring the work of the Constitutional Committee of Syria from Geneva to Damascus. To make this possible, there are certain conditions to be met.
"We have made a lot of efforts to help the UN Special Envoy to launch the Constitutional Committee in Geneva, so we are ready to facilitate its holding there. Of course, perhaps one day there will be conditions for holding a Constitutional Committee in Damascus, why not, but there must be certain conditions for this," RIA Novosti quoted the diplomat as saying.
Earlier, a representative of the leadership of the Syrian opposition Popular Front for Change and Liberation and the head of the Moscow Platform of the Syrian opposition Qadri Jamil stated that the Constitutional Committee of Syria should be moved to Damascus and operate under the auspices of the UN.
The 14th round of talks on Syria in the Astana format started today in Nur-Sultan.
