Lavrov: A Tragedy in Ukraine, a Catastrophe in Palestine

06 December

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov characterized the situation in Ukraine as a tragedy and the events in Palestine as a catastrophe, citing stark differences in civilian casualties. Speaking in an interview with American journalist Tucker Carlson, Lavrov underscored the humanitarian toll of the ongoing conflicts.

Lavrov highlighted the disparity in civilian deaths, noting that within one year of the Israeli operation in Palestine, approximately 45,000 Palestinian civilians were killed. He contrasted this figure with the estimated civilian casualties in Ukraine, which he stated were significantly lower over a decade of conflict since the 2014 political upheaval.

“Israel’s operation, launched in response to a terrorist attack that we condemned, has escalated into collective punishment—a practice that violates international humanitarian law,” Lavrov said. He emphasized that the scale of loss in Palestine is nearly double the civilian casualties reported from both sides of the Ukrainian conflict over ten years.
