Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov praised Kuwait's resolute stance against the West's attempts to portray the Ukrainian conflict as a global catastrophe. During discussions with Kuwait's Foreign Minister Salem Abdullah Al-Jaber Al-Sabah on Monday, Lavrov expressed his appreciation for Kuwait's balanced and responsible position on the matter.
Lavrov stated emphatically, "The West persistently insists on bringing the issue of Ukraine to the forefront. They argue that they must defeat Russia to determine which country will dominate the world in the future. We commend Kuwait for standing firm and rejecting attempts to sensationalize the situation as a global catastrophe, overshadowing other significant challenges faced by the Middle East and North Africa region, such as the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, Iraq, Libya, and Syria, which have persisted for decades."
He drew attention to the Western tendency to downplay numerous primary issues, emphasizing Russia's commitment to addressing these longstanding regional challenges.
"I sincerely hope that within the framework of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Persian Gulf (GCC) meeting, we can engage in constructive discussions on finding solutions to these pressing problems. It is crucial that we unite our efforts and exchange views to facilitate the adoption of fair and just decisions in accordance with UN resolutions," Lavrov asserted.
The Russian foreign minister also highlighted the significance of addressing bilateral concerns during the meeting with Kuwait's foreign minister. He acknowledged the progress made in resolving certain issues and emphasized "the need to pay special attention to economic and trade ties, which have been adversely affected by the ongoing pandemic and other challenges." Lavrov expressed unwavering confidence in the ability of the intergovernmental commission to reach a consensus and urged strong support for their endeavors.
Moreover, Lavrov underscored the importance of fostering Russian-Kuwaiti relations across various domains, including culture. He reaffirmed Moscow's unwavering commitment to nurturing and strengthening these ties in every possible way.
