Lavrov and Azerbaijani Foreign Minister discussed ways to normalize situation on border with Armenia

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov discussed by phone on Monday ways to normalize the situation on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border.


"There was a substantive exchange of views on various aspects of the implementation of the statements of the leaders of Russia, Azerbaijan and Armenia of November 9, 2020, and January 11, 2021, as well as ways to normalize the situation in the area of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border," the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.


As the ministry pointed out, the sides also discussed topical issues of bilateral relations, regional and international agenda. "The importance of the soonest resumption of the Trilateral Working Group under the co-chairmanship of Deputy Prime Ministers of Russia, Azerbaijan and Armenia to unblock economic and transport ties in the region was emphasized," the diplomatic office noted. - "Issues of further deepening of cooperation at international platforms, including the UN, OSCE and the "Caspian Five" were discussed."


The ministers noted with satisfaction "progressive development of multifaceted Russian-Azerbaijani relations and steady growth of trade and economic relations". "Both sides confirmed their commitment to implementation of the agreements reached during the working visit of President Ilham Aliyev of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the Russian Federation on July 20," the statement said.


"It was agreed on further contacts on the line of foreign policy departments," the Russian Foreign Ministry added.
