The situation in East Jerusalem

Tensions in East Jerusalem began to escalate in mid-April, and on May 7 clashes between Israeli border police and Palestinians began in two locations at once - near the Temple Mount and in the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood, where security forces were carrying out an eviction of several Arab families in accordance with an Israeli court order, accompanied by local protests and fierce clashes, which have been raging since late April.

According to the Palestinian news agency WAFA, the main clashes on Friday night and Saturday night took place near the Al-Aqsa Mosque. Israeli security forces fired rubber bullets at worshippers as well as used stun grenades and tear gas, then over 200 police stormed the mosque courtyards and indoor prayer halls, forcing worshippers to leave al-Aqsa.
