Lavrov and foreign minister of Turkmenistan discuss security in Central Asia

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Turkmenistan Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov discussed security problems in Central Asia, the Caspian region and neighboring countries on the margins of the meeting of foreign ministers of Caspian littoral states in Ashgabat.

 

"The sides discussed topical issues of bilateral relations, in particular ways of deepening cooperation in the cultural and humanitarian sphere and in the field of education. Special attention was paid to security problems in the Caspian region, Central Asia and neighboring countries," the Russian foreign ministry said in a statement on Tuesday.

 

The Russian foreign ministry also reported that Lavrov praised Turkmenistan's policy of neutrality and Ashkhabad's other initiatives, including strengthening biological security.
