Lavrov and Mirziyoyev discuss worsening situation in Afghanistan

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev discussed regional problems in connection with the aggravation of the situation in Afghanistan.


"Special attention was paid to regional problems in connection with the aggravation of the situation in Afghanistan. Joint readiness to promote Afghan national reconciliation and the establishment of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan as an independent, neutral state was stressed," the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement following the meeting between Lavrov and Mirziyoyev in the margins of the international conference "Central and South Asia: Regional Interconnectedness. Challenges and Opportunities".


The Foreign Ministry said the sides exchanged views on the prospects of bilateral relations in the political, economic and humanitarian spheres, which "are developing in the spirit of strategic partnership and alliance. "The cooperation of our countries in the fight against coronavirus infection was highly appreciated," the ministry added.
