Lavrov and new Armenian Foreign Minister discuss prospects of allied relations

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and new Armenian Foreign Minister Ara Ayvazyan discussed by phone the prospects of bilateral allied cooperation and the schedule of upcoming contacts.


"The Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs congratulated his Armenian counterpart on his appointment," the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement. - "The heads of foreign ministries discussed the state and prospects of Russian-Armenian allied cooperation, as well as the schedule of upcoming contacts".


The sides also exchanged views on the practical implementation of the November 9 agreements between the leaders of Russia, Azerbaijan and Armenia on a final ceasefire in Nagorno-Karabakh.


This was the first conversation between the ministers after Armenian President Armen Sargsyan signed a decree on Wednesday appointing Ara Ayvazyan head of the Armenian Foreign Ministry. Ayvazyan had previously held the post of deputy foreign minister. Former Armenian Foreign Minister Zohrab Mnatsakanyan resigned on Monday.
