Lavrov announces tough assessments of actions of different states at the UNGA

The tough assessments of various states' actions will certainly be made public at the upcoming UN General Assembly, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Monday at a meeting with accredited heads of diplomatic missions in Moscow.

"I hope our conversation will be interactive. It seems especially important on the eve of the UN General Assembly, which has already opened its 77th session in New York. High-level events begin this week, during which, of course, tough assessments of various states' actions are bound to be voiced. Probably, there's no getting away from it," he said.

Lavrov emphasized that the UN was founded "not only for polemical exercises, but also to fulfill the requirements of its Charter. "And it requires, on the basis of respect for the sovereign equality of states, to seek collective solutions to international problems," the minister added.

The Russian foreign minister noted that the difficult situation in the international arena "requires additional contacts and clarification of each other's positions." "We are witnessing an accumulation of crisis processes, both related to economic policy, energy policy, and processes that are directly caused by the undermining of the foundations on which the entire system of globalization was based," he explained.
