Lavrov Arrives in New York for UN Security Council Meetings

22 January

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has landed in New York to participate in UN Security Council meetings focusing on the Middle East and Ukraine.

The TASS correspondent reported that Lavrov's journey from Moscow to the United States took the northern route, allowing the aircraft to avoid unfriendly countries, completing the trip in 12 hours and 45 minutes without any unforeseen circumstances.

All journalists accompanying Lavrov received visas without a 25-mile travel restriction, a departure from the conditions during the UN General Assembly session in September. Unlike the earlier C2 visas, the newly issued Type I journalist visas are single-entry and valid until April.

Maria Zakharova, the Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman, previously informed TASS that Lavrov's visit to New York, scheduled between January 22 and 24, includes participation in a UN Security Council debate on the Middle East and a meeting focused on Ukraine. Several bilateral meetings are also anticipated during his stay.
