On Monday, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov arrived on a two-day official visit to Tajikistan, a TASS correspondent reports.
In Dushanbe, Lavrov to meet with President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon, hold talks with Tajik Foreign Minister Sirojiddin Mukhriddin, and visit the 201st Russian military base. In addition, the minister is scheduled to speak at the Russian-Tajik (Slavonic) University, as well as participate in the presentation of the book collection "Russian Classical Writers and Orthodoxy."
The last time Lavrov visited Dushanbe was last May, during a meeting of the CIS Council of Foreign Ministers (CMFA). In April of this year, the foreign ministers met at multilateral events in Samarkand to discuss, among other things, security in the region and curbing the threats from Afghanistan. These topics are likely to be on the agenda of the current round of bilateral talks as well.
