Lavrov at CIS CMFA briefed partners on special military operation

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has informed his partners about the course of the special military operation in Ukraine and noted the increase of attempts of the West to interfere in the affairs of the Commonwealth of Independent States during a meeting of the CIS Council of Foreign Ministers. This is stated in a statement of the Russian foreign ministry on the results of the CIS Ministerial Council meeting, which was published on Friday.

 

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov took part in the regular meeting of the CIS Council of Foreign Ministers in Samarkand on April 14.

 

"Sergey Lavrov detailed Russian assessments of the situation in the world with a focus on problems of ensuring global and regional security, noted the growing attempts of the collective West to interfere in the internal affairs of the CIS states. He informed his partners about the progress of the special military operation in Ukraine," the Russian foreign ministry said.

 

The ministry stressed that the heads of the CIS diplomatic missions exchanged opinions on topical international issues and "defined the main directions of cooperation within the framework of the organization for the current year." The foreign ministry said it highly appreciated the interaction between the MFAs in 2022.

 

The Russian foreign ministry said the meeting resulted in "decisions aimed at further strengthening integration ties in the political, cultural, humanitarian and educational spheres." "In particular, Minsk and Gyumri were declared the sport capitals of the Commonwealth in 2023 and 2024, respectively, and the Patrice Lumumba Russian Peoples' Friendship University  was given the status of the basic organization of the CIS training and retraining of journalists," added in the department.

 

"A number of approved documents will be submitted to the Council of CIS Heads of Government and the Council of CIS Heads of State," the Russian diplomatic office concluded.
