BRICS, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), and the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) are actively working on creating platforms that are impervious to influence from the collective West, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated during a press conference. The remarks followed a joint meeting of the foreign ministries of Russia and Belarus.
“We must develop our own platforms that render us immune to the whims of the West. This effort is already underway within BRICS, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, the Union State [of Russia and Belarus], and the Eurasian Economic Union,” Lavrov explained.
The minister further commented on the challenges and opportunities arising from the current geopolitical landscape. “As the Chinese say, 'Every crisis presents opportunities.' The rampant sanctions regime has not only compelled us but has also been beneficial, as it pushed us to stop relying on those who have proven completely unreliable as trustworthy partners,” Lavrov added.
