The recent action with the burning of the Quran in Sweden is comparable to the actions of the Nazis, who also burned books, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said.
"When the neo-Nazis burn the Quran in Scandinavia, it all reminds of similar episodes in recent history when fascists destroyed books in Germany and in conquered countries, and events in more recent history when books written in the Russian language, by Russian authors were simply dragged from libraries to the square and burned there," the foreign minister said Wednesday at a government hour at the State Duma.
Lavrov said Russia is actively cooperating with the Islamic world and believes the sides need to "only move forward". "We have the same positions on most of the current global problems: energy, food security, health, combating infectious diseases, regional conflicts and, of course, intercultural and inter-civilization dialogue," the Russian foreign minister said.
