Lavrov Calls for Enhanced UN Efforts to Counter Terrorism

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov emphasized the need for the United Nations to take proactive steps and enhance its endeavors in countering terrorism, without adhering to any form of double standards. He made this statement during his address at the XI Moscow Conference on International Security.

 

"Everyone should draw lessons from the tragic consequences of wars initiated by the US and its allies. We consider it crucial for the UN, which has somewhat receded in this domain of late, to display initiative and escalate efforts in the realm of counter-terrorism, free from any dual standards," he said.

 

Moreover, amidst the challenges to global security, the issue of military-biological activities has gained significant prominence in the present day, the minister underscored. "Primarily, concerning instances of uncontrolled military-biological actions carried out by the United States and some of its allies across different regions globally, as detailedly reported by our ministry of defense," he appended. - "These actions run counter to commitments outlined in the Biological and Toxin Weapons Convention, necessitating a more proactive pursuit of urgently reinforcing this convention. This could be achieved by establishing a legally binding and transparent verification mechanism within its framework to assess the programs undertaken by participating nations."

 

The international military-technical forum "Army-2023" is being held from August 14 to 20 at the Patriot Exhibition and Convention Center, as well as the Alabino training ground and Kubinka airfield. Around 1,500 leading Russian defense industry enterprises are participating in the exposition and business program. Additionally, 85 foreign companies and organizations from 7 countries are anticipated to partake in the forum. The event is organized by the Russian ministry of defense, with TASS serving as a strategic media partner.
