Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov sent a congratulatory message to OIC Secretary General Youssef Al-Othaimeen on the 50th anniversary of the OIC’s foundation.
"Mr. Secretary General,
I congratulate you on the 50th anniversary of the Organization of Islamic cooperation.
The Russian Federation and the OIC have established constructive cooperation and worked productively on topical international problems. We are ready for the further development of a mutually beneficial partnership based on multiple common approaches and a similar vision of prospects for interaction between states in the interests of durable peace and security, settlement of conflicts, and a dialogue of cultures and civilisations," the message reads.
The OIC was founded on 25 September 1969 at the summit of representatives of Muslim majority countries in Rabat with the aim of promoting Islamic solidarity in the social, economic and political spheres.
The Organization of Islamic cooperation is the largest and most influential official governmental Muslim international organization. Currently, it consists of 57 countries with a collective population of over 1.5 billion.
