Today, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov spoke at the ministerial segment of the 62nd session of the United Nations Comission on Narcotic Drugs, which is being held in Vienna.
The head of Russian diplomacy stressed that the challenges associated with the spread of drugs can be dealt with only through the efforts of the entire international community. «Countering the threat of drugs is an important component of ensuring global security, including its regional dimensions.
The SCO contributes to these efforts, which at the last year’s summit in Qingdao adopted the Anti-Drug Strategy and the Action Program for its implementation. Among the most important priorities is the destruction of the «link» between terrorism and drug trafficking and thereby weakening the financial base of the terrorists,» Lavrov noted in particular.
Today, according to the Foreign Minister, Russia is carrying out a number of anti-drug training programs, including at the international level. In particular, jointly with Japan and the United Nations, a project is ongoing to train personnel for the relevant services of Afghanistan, the countries of Central Asia and Pakistan.
