Lavrov discussed by phone with Egyptian Foreign Minister the promotion of normalization in Libya

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov discussed the situation in Libya and the intensification of international efforts to promote normalization in the country over the phone with Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry on Tuesday.


"The problems of resolving conflicts and crisis situations in the Middle East and North Africa region were discussed, with a focus on the emerging situation in Libya. In this context, the need to intensify international efforts under the auspices of the UN to promote the earliest normalization of the situation in Libya and the formation of permanent Libyan authorities was emphasized. They also expressed hope that the Libyan Transitional Government will be able to unify state structures, financial and economic institutions in the short term on the basis of the principles of territorial integrity and sovereignty of Libya," said the Russian Foreign Ministry.


The ministers also confirmed their intention to continue coordination for achieving a comprehensive peace in the Middle East in accordance with the existing international legal framework.


In addition, in their conversation, Lavrov and Shukri discussed in detail the strengthening of bilateral cooperation in accordance with the Comprehensive Partnership and Strategic Cooperation Treaty signed in 2018. The conversation was initiated by Cairo.
