17 October 2022

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov received Syrian Ambassador to Moscow Riyad Haddad on Monday on the occasion of completing his mission in Russia, the Russian diplomatic office said in a statement.

"During the conversation, the parties discussed topical issues of further development of traditionally friendly Russian-Syrian relations, including the expansion of cooperation in trade, economic and humanitarian areas," the Russian MFA informed.

The Russian MFA reported that during the meeting the parties "stressed the importance of maintaining an active political dialogue between Moscow and Damascus, as well as close coordination on regional and international issues with an emphasis on the tasks of a comprehensive settlement in the Syrian Arab Republic."

Haddad had been Syria's Ambassador to Russia since 2011.

On October 5, it became known that Syrian President Bashar al-Assad swore in a new ambassador to Russia, Bashar Jaafari, who had held the post of Deputy Foreign Minister before his appointment to Moscow.
