Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov had a telephone conversation with President of the Libyan House of Representatives Aguila Saleh. The parties discussed the situation in the country in the conditions of armed confrontation.
"During the conversation the officials had a detailed exchange of views on developments in Libya under conditions of continued armed confrontation between the eastern and the western military-political camps. Both sides emphasized that a military solution of the crisis has no prospects and that it is necessary to launch a constructive dialogue of all Libyan political forces without delay," the message on the Russian MFA website reads.
Lavrov also expressed support for the initiative made by Saleh on April 23 of this year, which provides for the immediate halt to hostilities and the resumption of inter-Libyan talks with a view to resolving current problems and forming uniform bodies of authority in the country.
In addition, the officials discussed the international implications of a settlement in Libya, including the prospects for the implementation of the decisions of the international conference on Libya that took place on January 19 of this year and the UN Security Council Resolution 2510 that confirmed them.
