Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov met with the Minister of International Relations of South Africa Naledi Pandor on the sidelines of the BRICS ministerial meeting in Rio de Janeiro.
The diplomats discussed the prospects of the Russian-South African strategic partnership focusing on expanding trade, economic and humanitarian cooperation.
In addition, they confirmed their mutual interest in deepening the political dialogue and the focus of the two countries on effective coordination of activities in the UN, BRICS, the G20 and other international platforms.
Special attention was paid to cooperation with the states of the region in the political, trade and economic fields and in the security sphere, as well as to preparations for the Russia-Africa Summit, which will be held in Sochi in October this year.
