Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Uzbekistan's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade Sardor Umurzakov discussed the special military operation in Ukraine as well as the situation in Afghanistan at a meeting in Tunxi, China, on Wednesday.
"Lavrov briefed Sardor Umurzakov on the special military operation to demilitarize and denazify Ukraine, as well as the progress of the negotiation process between the Russian and Ukrainian delegations," the Russian foreign ministry said in a statement following the meeting.
Smolensk Square noted that the sides considered topical issues of bilateral cooperation, as well as "international and regional agendas." "The situation in Afghanistan and additional measures for strengthening of stability and security in the region were considered in detail," the foreign ministry added.
"The mood for expanding mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries and maintaining high dynamics of the Russian-Uzbek strategic partnership and alliance was confirmed," the Russian MFA stressed.
Lavrov has arrived in China to attend the third ministerial conference of Afghanistan's neighboring countries on March 31. The Russian foreign ministry said earlier that the head of the Russian diplomatic mission would hold a series of talks with his foreign counterparts on March 30.
