Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov discussed with the Foreign Ministers of the Arab countries of the Persian Gulf and the Secretary-General of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Persian Gulf (GCC) the ways to achieve sustainable stabilization in the region during a video conference, the message of the Russian Foreign Ministry distributed on Tuesday reads.
"Prospects for sustainable stabilization of the situation in the Persian Gulf were touched upon by promoting a constructive, unifying agenda, the creation of joint mechanisms to respond to challenges and threats with the participation of all states in the subregion," the ministry said.
The Foreign Ministry noted that Lavrov stated the relevance of the Russian concept of creating a collective security system in the Persian Gulf, as well as the proposal of Russian President Vladimir Putin to hold in online format summit of heads of five states that are permanent members of the UN Security Council, Germany and Iran.
According to the Foreign Ministry, the parties also exchanged views on the key Middle East issues, including the situation in Syria, Libya and the Arab-Israeli settlement.
"At the same time, the necessity to resolve conflicts and crisis situations in the region by political and diplomatic means was confirmed, taking into account the legitimate interests and concerns of all involved parties, strictly following the norms of international law and the UN Charter", the diplomatic mission concluded.
GCC includes Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and UAE.
