Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Moussa Faki Mahamat, Chairman of the African Union Commission, met in Moscow to explore ways to strengthen economic ties between the African Union and the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU). Details of the meeting were provided by the Russian Foreign Ministry.
Their discussion covered a wide range of topics related to comprehensive cooperation between Russia and the African Union. They focused on enhancing coordination to promote peace, security, and stability, as well as creating conditions for sustainable development. Both sides expressed a keen interest in expanding economic connections, particularly between the African Union and the EAEU.
“Russia reaffirmed its unwavering readiness to collaborate with the African Union on international platforms to address pressing issues on the continent, following the principle of 'African solutions to African problems,'” the Foreign Ministry stated.
The meeting also addressed the implementation of decisions from the second Russia-Africa summit, which took place in Saint Petersburg in July 2023. Additionally, they discussed preparations for the ministerial conference of the Russia-Africa Partnership Forum, scheduled to be held in Sochi in November 2024.
