Lavrov discusses situation in Afghanistan with Chinese Foreign Minister

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov had a telephone conversation with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Monday to discuss the situation in Afghanistan and its impact on the situation in the region.


"There was an exchange of views on increasing foreign policy coordination, including at the UN, as well as in connection with the latest developments in Afghanistan and their impact on the situation in the region," the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.


The ministers also reportedly discussed the schedule of upcoming contacts and the fight against the coronavirus. The foreign ministers noted the importance of the bilateral Treaty of Good Neighborhood, Friendship and Cooperation.


"In connection with the approaching anniversary of the end of World War II, special attention is paid to strengthening coordination in countering attempts to falsify its history and revise the outcome. The ministers agreed to hold joint events dedicated to the struggle of the peoples of the two countries against the Nazis and militarists," the ministry added.
