Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian had a phone conversation on Tuesday regarding the upcoming face-to-face contacts at various levels, as confirmed by the Russian foreign ministry.
"Both ministers expressed mutual interest in close coordination of approaches, particularly in relation to the upcoming face-to-face contacts," the ministry reports.
The discussion also covered various topics on the bilateral agenda. "A confidential exchange of views took place on regional and international matters of mutual interest, including the recent sixth ministerial meeting of the Russia-GCC strategic dialogue held in Moscow on July 10," it states, highlighting that the ministers reaffirmed their commitment to the fundamental principles of international law, as outlined in the UN Charter, which include respecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of states.
The phone conversation was initiated by the Iranian side, according to the ministry.
