Russia is interested in building up cooperation with Iran in many areas, but the priority in relations between the two states is the fight against terrorism. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov announced it after the talks with his Iranian counterpart Mohammad Javad Zarif.

“One of the priorities is the further coordination of efforts to combat the terrorist threat, including through law enforcement agencies”, the Head of Russian Diplomacy claimed.

According to Lavrov, today Moscow and Tehran are actively cooperating "on the subject of ensuring the interests of the citizens of Russia and the citizens of the Islamic Republic of Iran, who are in each other's territory".

It is known that, during the negotiations, the Russian and Iranian Foreign Ministers have also discussed the Iranian nuclear deal, as well as the most pressing issues on the international agenda, including the Middle East.
