Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov is currently holding talks with Yemeni Foreign Minister Shaya Mohsen al-Zindani in Moscow, according to a TASS correspondent.
Lavrov began the meeting by congratulating al-Zindani on his appointment as Yemen's foreign policy chief in March. "I am convinced that your extensive experience in diplomacy and international politics will be instrumental in overcoming the current challenges and strengthening Yemen's international standing for the benefit of its people," Lavrov stated.
He also noted that last November marked the 95th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Russia and Yemen.
"Throughout this time, our ties have been grounded in strong friendship and a deep mutual affection between our citizens," Lavrov remarked. He recalled the significant socio-economic, technical, and humanitarian support provided by the Soviet Union, particularly to the People's Democratic Republic of Yemen, which was even referred to as the 16th republic of the USSR.
During the talks, Lavrov mentioned that the bilateral agenda would be a key focus. "We will also exchange views on the situation in your region and discuss the efforts that need to be intensified to overcome the current crisis in the Republic of Yemen, restore the country's unity, and create stable conditions for its development in the interests of the Yemeni people," Lavrov concluded.
Lavrov's previous meeting with a Yemeni foreign minister took place in February, when Ahmed Awad bin Mubarak held the position.
