Russia, the United States and France are preparing a joint statement by foreign ministers on the situation around Nagorno-Karabakh, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov told on Monday.

"Now we are preparing a statement of the foreign ministers of the three countries, but, of course, we need to think not only about the statements, but also about the specific steps that can be taken to stop the bloodshed and still return the situation in the course of negotiations," - said the minister.

As Lavrov noted, Russia maintains contacts with Armenia and Azerbaijan, as well as discusses the Nagorno-Karabakh issue with other states, in particular, Turkey and Iran. "Today me and [French Foreign Minister] Jean-Yves Le Drian discussed Nagorno-Karabakh also by phone. The "Troika" of the co-chairs of the [OSCE Minsk Group] represented by the presidents of Russia, France and the USA made a strong statement," Lavrov added.

The situation in Nagorno-Karabakh escalated on September 27 and active battles are taking place on the disputed territory. Martial law has been introduced in Azerbaijan and Armenia, and mobilization has been announced. Both sides report deaths and injuries, including among civilians.
