Lavrov is taking part in the meeting of the SCO Foreign Ministers

A meeting of the Council of Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization member states has begun in Bishkek.

 

 


The Russian Delegation  is headed by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.

 

 


As previously reported on the website of the Russian Foreign Ministry, the central themes of the meeting will be the fight against terrorism and the deepening of economic cooperation.

 

 


It is known that in 2019 Kyrgyzstan chairs the SCO. On June 13rd-14th, a summit of Heads of member states of the organization will take place in Bishkek.

 

 


The SCO is an international organization founded in 2001 by the Leaders of China, Russia, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan. At the SCO summit in Astana on June 9th, 2017, the Leaders of the organization’s member states have signed a decision to include India and Pakistan. The observer countries in the organization currently are Afghanistan, Belarus, Iran and Mongolia, and the partner countries are Armenia, Azerbaijan, Cambodia, Nepal, Turkey and Sri Lanka.
