Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov met with Lebanese Prime Minister Saad Hariri during his working visit to Abu Dhabi. The sides discussed the situation in Syria, as well as Russia's assistance to Lebanon in fighting the coronavirus, the Russian Foreign Ministry said.

The Russian Foreign Ministry noted that Lavrov's meeting with Hariri took place after Lebanese President Michel Aoun instructed the Prime Minister to form a new government.

"There was an in-depth exchange of views on the unfolding situation in Lebanon with a focus on the tasks of quickly overcoming the socio-economic crisis through the creation of a capable technocratic cabinet that has the support of the main political and confessional forces of the country," the Russian Foreign Ministry said.

Lavrov and Hariri also touched on "some regional problems, including the need to consolidate international efforts to resolve the Syrian crisis on the basis of UN Security Council Resolution 2254, including its provisions concerning the return of Syrian refugees to their homes."

"The parties discussed practical issues of further strengthening the traditionally friendly Russian-Lebanese relations, in particular, promoting mutually beneficial trade, economic and humanitarian cooperation with an emphasis on Russian assistance in the fight against coronavirus infection in Lebanon," the Russian Foreign Ministry concluded.
