Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Lavrov held a meeting with Special Representative for the United Nations Mission for Iraq Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert.
According to the website of the Russian Foreign Ministry, the meeting focused on the situation in Iraq and the prospects for its development in the context of the escalation of tension in the region.
The sides discussed support for the Iraqi authorities in achieving national reconciliation, restoring the country’s economy and countering international terrorism.
Both sides expressed their support for the Iraqi government’s efforts in the restoration of control over all the territories that were previously seized by ISIS (outlawed in Russia) and the provision of unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Iraq.
